The demolition of the College’s former Ingelow Centre marks the exciting first steps towards the construction of the brand-new flagship building, The Mayflower. This ambitious project promises to redefine the learning landscape, fostering inclusivity, innovation, and a vibrant sense of community.
The Ingelow Centre had been home to the College Foundation (Entry/SEND) learners for the past 10 years until their move to the Rochford Campus in April last year. The new Jean Ingelow Centre features facilities including classrooms, a ‘real home environment’ flat, two computer labs, art facilities, a quiet room, a fully equipped kitchen, and an outdoor garden. Prior to this, the Ingelow Centre was known as Ingelow Manor Care Home for many years and was well-known to the local community.
Relocating our learners with special educational needs into the heart of the campus from their tired old building has been so positive for inclusivity. We are now at a momentous point in the creation of a new facility to serve our communities, combining leisure with learning in a space where everyone is welcome. Mayflower will help us on our mission to transform lives through education, skills and training, and, after almost four years of thinking and planning, we are delighted that the ‘big build’ is now underway.

As part of the Boston Town Deal, The Mayflower plays a pivotal role in the town’s economic revitalisation. The bespoke learning centre for young people and adults will provide spaces for higher education studies, voluntary services, careers advice, health and wellbeing support and opportunities for skills development.
The beginning of demolition brings us a step closer to realising our ambitions for the Mayflower, our flagship Town Deal project in Boston. It marks the start of the physical works for this key project and is a significant milestone in the delivery of the scheme. The Mayflower is set to be truly transformational for Boston as an inspirational space where learners will have access to significant opportunities for learning as well as state-of-the-art facilities. The Mayflower will be a place where learners will be able to achieve their potential, and over the coming year, I look forward to seeing this exciting development for the town take shape.

Construction on The Mayflower is expected to begin in Spring 2024 and be completed and ready to welcome learners from September 2025.
