Boston businesses operating in the relevant sectors are being offered a last chance to enrol to access funded support and grant funding.

The Centre for Food and Fresh Produce Logistics is a business support programme that assists businesses to increase productivity and profitability and create jobs.

Through the programme – which also provides training and networking event – businesses can apply for capital grants of up to £10k towards the purchase of equipment as part of their business growth project.

The programme is funded by the Towns Fund through Boston Town Board and delivered by the University of Lincoln and Boston College. There are over 80 businesses enrolled – with just a few spaces left for businesses wishing to take up the opportunity.

We are working with Boston businesses that are operating in the relevant sectors including food manufacturing, logistics, food retailers, restaurants and cafes, food supplies, engineering, and professional services, amongst many others.

The support our team of experts provides varies and is really tailored to the needs of the business, with our overall aim to support businesses in the town to thrive.

One way in which we can make a big difference is by providing grant funding which allows businesses to buy much needed equipment.

But time is running out for interested businesses with the Centre for Food and Fresh Produce Logistics closing at the end of this year. I would urge anyone who thinks they can benefit from this unique programme to get in touch today.

David ThorpeProgramme Manager

The food sector and related industries form a vital part of our local economy and the Centre for Food and Fresh Produce Logistics is providing invaluable support and funding to enable businesses operating in the town to grow and succeed.

It is great to see the impact that the programme has already had, with over 80 businesses benefitting from access to the services and funding offered by this innovative partnership with the University of Lincoln and Boston College.

From the feedback shared by participants, it is clear to see that the programme is making a tangible difference for businesses in Boston – and the opportunity remains for businesses that have not yet taken part to enrol before it closes.

Case Studies

Porcher Abrasives

Porcher Abrasive Coatings are acknowledged as experts in abrasive coatings and the leading manufacturer of temperature cured abrasive linings for potato and vegetable peeling equipment. With support from the Centre for Food and Fresh Produce Logistics a used Lathe was sourced for the business. Having this new equipment has given the business confidence to target UK and European growth with the potential for growth in the team as well as revenue.

Working with this programme has been very smooth, easy, and not overly time consuming. The consultants have supported our Capital Grant application throughout and once submitted the decision-making process was very quick and efficient.

East Lincolnshire Seafoods

East Lincolnshire Seafoods accessed grant funding through the programme that allowed it to buy crucial equipment. It has also received advice.

We decided to work with the Centre for Food and Fresh Produce Logistics as buying the equipment we needed would have been a very costly job for us to fund ourselves. The funding has helped us massively to get our equipment back up and running in good order.

The support from Centre for Food and Fresh Produce Logistics has made a difference to our business by making our equipment more cost effective to run, bringing it all back up to date and in good working order making it much more reliable.

I would recommend any business wanting support to contact Centre for Food and
Fresh Produce Logistics as we have found them very useful and helpful.

The Greenhouse

‘The Greenhouse’ is owned and run by Dan Revell-Wiseman and Lee Revell-Wiseman and was one of the first businesses to join The Centre for Food and Fresh Produce Logistics.

The Greenhouse needed to buy some items of kitchen equipment and by joining the programme and taking up the Capital Grant option they have been able to afford the equipment much sooner that would have been possible without the support.

Joining this programme has enabled us to work towards our aspirations to grow the business. We aim to recruit more staff and provide them with Barista training that can be delivered by Boston College and paid for by the programme.

Alpego UK

Alpego UK are agricultural machinery suppliers based on the Fen Road Industrial Estate and have received support from the programme.

This opportunity came at an ideal time for our business. We had a need for some technical support to broaden our customer base and focus on new markets. We have also taken up the Capital Grant option to purchase equipment that enables us to substantially improve our efficiency and customer care in the after sales service and repair side of the business. We have also recently taken on some new staff so the funded training will be of benefit for enhancing their knowledge and qualifications.

London Road Bakery

London Road Bakery has received support to consider development options and create an business plan for expansion.

I've really appreciated the support and guidance that I've received from the programme team so far. Their experience in and knowledge of the food industry has been key in the decision to expand our business. We are still at the beginning of a journey to develop a new property but is reassuring to have their expertise to call upon.
